preserving land
One of the primary goals of Schiff's mission is to preserve open space within one mile of our borders. Our land acquisition plan is structured with the goal to preserve critical habitat and open space to create an extensive greenway that connects Mendham Borough parkland to the east, McVickers Brook Preserve and the Schiff Nature Preserve with Mount Paul County Park and the Mosle Preserve to the west, as well as additional lands along the North Branch of the Raritan River. Because Schiff is surrounded by development on all sides, this goal becomes more urgent every day to protect our forest, grassland and water resources.
To learn more about our specific plans, see the descriptions of our specific project areas, such as the Schiff to Mount Paul Greenway and the North Branch Project Area on our Preservation Projects page.
