Schiff Nature Preserve 25th Anniversary
T-Shirt Design Contest
It’s nearly spring and the Schiff Nature Preserve needs your help celebrating our 25th Anniversary!
We’re looking for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade to create beautiful, nature-themed designs using the number "25," that we’ll use to design the t-shirts for our 2009 Schiff Summer Nature
Program for Kids.
Artists are invited to use paints, crayons, markers, colored pencils, or pen to create the design, but please be sure to keep artwork two-dimensional.
Entries should be sent to the Schiff Nature Preserve by March 1, 2009. Please see all contest
guidelines below.
Did You Know?
- Native American artifacts have been found along the rivers and streams near Schiff. The local Lenni Lenape probably used the sheltered valleys to provide trail corridors and to find food resources.
- A long standing oral tradition locates a Revolutionary War outpost on a hilltop in the northern section of Schiff.
- The present Nature Preserve is part of the original Schiff Reservation which was donated in memory of Mortimer Schiff, who passed away while serving as National President of the Boy Scouts of America in 1931.
- Quiet hikes through an undisturbed spread of open, natural space on over eight miles of trails and 340 acres are the preserve's major attractions.

Contest Guidelines:
• Limit – 1 entry per student
• Open to all students in grades K–6 (including public, private, and home schooled children)
• Contest period will run 1/1/09 to 3/1/09
• Entries may be delivered or mailed to the nature center (postmarked by 3/1/09)
• Designs should be created using only paint, crayons, markers, pen, or colored pencils (the picture must remain two-dimensional) and may not be computer generated.
• Design should clearly show the number 25, but creatively depict any sort of nature theme.
• There will be one winner from all entries grades K-6 and will be notified by phone on April 1, 2009.
• Recognition of all entries will be held at the Schiff Annual Members Meeting on Sunday, May 17, 2009
