Volunteers Help Schiff Grow
Schiff Nature Preserve’s success and growth is directly linked to the hard work
of our volunteers. This land was preserved by people who gave their time to their community and that tradition of service has brought us to where we are today.

The rewards for volunteering are numerous: volunteers have a direct impact on preserving precious open space and promoting environmental education in New Jersey. By helping us out from time to time, you also have the opportunity to meet people with similar interests, share your knowledge and learn something new.

Helping Schiff can take many forms. Check out our list below to see what might interest you. We also welcome suggestions; if you have an idea, let us know!

Publicity Team
Great communicators needed: Help get the word out about our organization and all that we do! Distribute our materials in your local area and introduce Schiff to a new audience. You can help represent Schiff by attending local tabling events and tell people about Schiff. Also, print PDF versions of our fliers we post on our website from home and distribute locally.

Lands Volunteers
Like to get your hands dirty? Like to spend time outside? Help maintain our native plant garden, monitor our bluebird boxes, participate in wildlife surveys, or help us remove invasive plants and make room for native species by working with the Central Jersey Invasive Species Strike Team.

Trail Clearing and Construction: Franklin Parker Trail
Thanks to our hardworking volunteers, this trail is complete!

Wildlife Monitoring
Screech Owl Box Monitoring: Twice per month, December through April (must not have a fear of heights)
Bluebird Box Monitoring: Once per week, May- August
Ongoing...if you are an expereinced naturalist, please share your Schiff species lists with us.

Preserve Work Days
All work days begin at 9:30 am and conclude by noon unless otherwise noted.

Photographers/Artists/Musicians/Writers/Craftspeople
Seeking artists: One of the best ways to reach new people is to reveal the beauty of Schiff through art. Whether you paint, sculpt, take photos, write songs or poetry, knit etc., Schiff would love for you share that talent with us and we can certainly find a way to use it! If you have an idea of how you can help us capture some of Schiff’s beauty, entertain our members, or lead a workshop, we would love to hear about it.

Current Needs:
High quality photographs of the Preserves in any season
Paintings for animal displays

We could also always use photographers at events, or creative people who want to design displays, or etc. Tell us your ideas!

Events & Outreach Volunteers
Creative, energetic multi-taskers needed to help plan and run events: help us to prepare craft projects for our school-age groups, host a Learn about the Land Trust Event for friends and colleagues, or even organize a lecture series. The possibilities are endless!

Nature Center and Administration Aid
Are you organized? Like to see everything in its proper place? Not as glamorous as some other jobs, but helping with mailings and other administrative tasks are essential to our success.

Other ongoing Nature Center jobs:
Trail Map Folding
Computer data entry
Craft preparations for upcoming children's programs

Volunteer
To apply for a volunteer position, please send an e-mail to info@schiffnaturepreserve.org. Include your name, contact information, the type of volunteer work you want, and provide general information about your background and skills. Let us know if you have a particular area of interest.

The list doesn’t stop here…

If you have another skill you think might be useful to Schiff, don’t hesitate to suggest it. We are always looking for new and innovative ways to involve the public and promote our mission.
