Volunteers Help Schiff Grow
Schiff Nature Preserve’s success and growth is directly linked to the hard work
of our volunteers. This land was preserved by people who gave their time to their community and that tradition of service has brought us to where we are today.

The rewards for volunteering are numerous: volunteers have a direct impact on preserving precious open space and promoting environmental education in New Jersey. By helping us out from time to time, you also have the opportunity to meet people with similar interests, share your knowledge and learn something new.

Helping Schiff can take many forms. Check out our list below to see what might interest you. We also welcome suggestions; if you have an idea, let us know!

Publicity Team
Great communicators needed: Help get the word out about our organization and all that we do! Distribute our materials in your local area and introduce Schiff to a new audience. You can help represent Schiff by attending local tabling events and tell people about Schiff. Also, print PDF versions of our fliers we post on our website from home and distribute locally.

Historic Site Restoration
July 24- July 29 A historic mason will be volunteering his services to Schiff in order to restore the cellar hole at the site of the DeVore Farm. He will need helpers!
When: Beginning at 9am
Where: Meet at the Nature Center; go to the site as a group.
Who: Anyone who doesn’t mind heavy work! Must be 15 or over. Need to be able to lift rocks, haul buckets and wheelbarrows approximately 50 feet.
What: We need to move all of the rocks currently in the center of the cellar hole to put about 8" of soil back into the cellar floor, then move the rocks back into place for the mason. We also need to remove some stumps from the side hills within the fenced in area (labor intensive).

Equipment you can bring to make things easier:
Gloves are a must
5 gallon pails
Wheelbarrow
Tools to remove stumps: shovels, picks, axes, etc.
Plenty of water, snacks and lunch

If you have an idea of how you can help us capture some of Schiff’s beauty, entertain our members, or lead a workshop, we would love to hear about it.
