Schiff Natural Lands Trust has an interest in three separate nature
preserves.
The Schiff Nature Preserve is our flagship preserve,
home to the Schiff Nature Center and most of our programming. This
property comprises some 354.5 acres and will continue to expand
in size as a result of pending land acquisition efforts.
Since 2009, Schiff has acquired the following properties that will
expand the Preserve:
The Community of St. John Baptist, 15 acres on
the north end of the preserve, will be partially restored to control
invasive species, regenerate the forest that was logged in the past,
and restore the scenic beauty.
The Marckwald Tract, a total of 49 acres separated
by Mosle Road, includes a Hemlock forest and a sheep meadow.
The O'Leary Tract, 17 acres, is a steep slope
to the south of Pleasant Valley Road. This property will provide
access to Little Brook Sanctuary, a Somerset County Park.
Other properties
The McVickers Brook Preserve, which we co-own and
co-manage with Mendham Borough, includes 107 acres directly adjacent
to Schiff Nature Preserve.

The Mosle Preserve and Recreation Area, which
we co-own and co-manage with Mendham Township and the NJ Water Supply
Authority, accounts for another 117 acres of preserved open space
in Mendham Township.
